A Sophisticated Story: The Beginning

Hey! My name is Sami and this the story behind SGFX.

Point Blank

Switching my college course from Aerospace Engineering to Graphic Design was one of the boldest decisions I’ve ever made. The hardest part? Breaking the news to my Asian parents. To my surprise, they took it much better than I expected!

From a young age, I’ve always had a creative mindset, and graphic design gave me the perfect outlet to unleash my potential. My journey started modestly on YouTube during its booming years. Creators were in dire need of eye-catching banner designs and cover art, and that’s where my portfolio began to flourish.

College Life & Awards

My college adventure kicked off with an Art & Design course in 2011, which paved the way for a two-year Graphic Design program. During this time, I not only honed my skills but also collected a slew of qualifications and awards. These achievements fueled my motivation and confidence, affirming that I truly had the talent and craft for this creative trade. College wasn't just an educational experience; it was a pivotal moment that solidified my passion and set the stage for a vibrant career in graphic design.

UniDays

By the time I joined University, I had a large portfolio, but there was a few skills i was lacking so decided to enroll and take a course at USW. I had a clear insight on what I wanted to gain from my time at Uni, I wanted to learn the Business and Communication side of Graphics. Whilst in Uni, I wanted to start expanding the vision I had for SGFX and make it a statement within Cardiff. I also met a my now Business partner, Samiul. We shared alot of information and tricks together and I decided to bring him on board and we formed a partnership. We will get into the story on another blog post ;).

Location Secured

In my final year of university, my Instagram page began gaining traction with a few freelance gigs here and there. It became clear that I needed to elevate my professionalism and shift my focus from personal to brand representation. That's when I discovered a cozy office space and a newly refurbished container space in central Cardiff—an ideal location that gave my brand a dedicated home and a vibrant creativity hub where clients could actively participate.

Determined to break away from the traditional office environment, I envisioned a dynamic creativity space. I firmly believe in involving clients in the process and making the experience enjoyable for everyone. As I graduated with a degree in Graphic Communication, I poured my heart and soul into building SGFX. With passion and dedication, I was committed to transforming SGFX into a thriving success.

Where we are now

The container space was our home for roughly about a year but we outgrew the space and needed an upgrade! Fast forward today we have a beautiful office space in Portland house, Cardiff bay and have been growing in progress.
